Freestyle Swimming Technique: Hydrodynamics & Recovery

Fresh Freestyle practice guides are designed for those who already own “Fresh Freestyle – 99 Practices for Triathletes and Swimmers“.  These guides lead you week by week through a progressive sequence of swimming skills, swimming drills, dry land training and swimming workouts directly from the book.

This 8 week practice guide focuses on the combination of hydrodynamics and recovery.  We think these two freestyle swimming techniques pair well together like peanut butter & jelly or Vegemite & toast. Without proper body position, alignment and hydrodynamics, the recovery will be rushed, unbalanced and abrupt.   All three of things things can contribute to fatigue and shoulder injury or strain.

Because the shoulder is one of the most delicate and susceptible joints in the body, we want to make sure it’s well taken care of!  This combo 8 week practice guide will have you feeling like your smooth sailing in the water … even if you like chunky peanut butter.

These guides consist of sequences of practices from the book to help give structure and order to your training.

Integrate our guides into your regular swim training plan to help train for your next event while working on your weaknesses at the same time.  Use our recommendations to substitute for any “drill” sections in masters swimming or your triathlon training plan.   Stop guessing about what practices pair well together, and just use our suggestions.   You can follow all or part of a practice guide if you only need a 3 week tuneup, and you can blend two guides together as well.

The possibilities are endless for helping improve your swim workouts and help you stay mentally engaged in you pool or open water practices.
